S. Clay Wilson
A major pioneer of the underground comix explosion in the late 1960s, it is S. Clay Wilson whom R. Crumb cites as freeing his mind "to draw anything I like... after all, it's only lines on paper." A veteran of publications from ZAP to Playboy to illustrating books by William Burroughs, Wilson is represented in prestigious galleries and private collections throughout the world. Most recently his art was exhibited in Rotterdam, Holland along with the works of Hieronymus Bosch and H.R. Giger.
Because Wilson's works are snapped up as soon as they are finished, his originals are rarely available. His rich complex ink drawings ("my dense-pack style" he calls it) for Wilson's Grimm offered here are doubly unique for their availability and their rarity. He has illustrated only one other children's book, Wilson's Andersen (Word Play, 1994), now long out of print.
Word Play is pleased to offer these rare S. Clay Wilson original works of art.
